Initial Teacher Training (ITT) providers have to be confident that trainees have adequate subject knowledge to teach in their subject.
Qualifications and experience: We only offer postgraduate routes into teaching, so you need a degree to commence the course. We will interview candidates who are completing a degree in the same calendar year as the course begins. As a rule of thumb, your degree should be 50% based in the subject you wish to teach. We would also consider other factors, such as a large breadth of related experience. You will also need a Maths and English GCSE at grade 4 (C) or above, or equivalent qualifications. If your qualifications are from overseas, you can apply for ENIC certification.
Subject Knowledge Enhancement courses: We are able to make studying a Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) course a condition of any offer that we give to trainees whose subject knowledge needs an extra boost prior to training. Some SKE courses are funded by the DfE and others are not, depending on the subject. At interview we would establish whether candidates need to undertake an SKE and, if so, how long this should be for. Courses can run from 8 weeks to 28 weeks so early applications are advisable. Experience: You can gain extra school experience in a secondary setting by arranging some school experience days. You may be able to arrange this yourself or you can use the DfE’s school experience service to find a school which is hosting a visit: DfE School Experience.
MSC taster mornings: We offer taster mornings of our professional training sessions. This gives new candidates the chance to visit our setting, meet our team, and speak with the current cohort in training. The taster session provides an invaluable experience, providing insight into the training ahead, how it runs, and our training facility. The taster morning usually occurs in-between the stage one interview and the stage two interview, but new applicants are welcome at any time that is convenient to them.
